| 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matt 28:19-20 |
The Church at Poteau is honored to work with brother Arroyo in Queretaro, some members of the church, under the leadership of one of our elders, Dick Moore, have found this mission effort very rewarding and are very passionate about being involved with helping the church in Queretaro, Mexico, and the School of Preaching, where the minister is Miguel Arroyo. Through his work there, many students have established several churches in the area and other parts of Mexico. The first mission trip there was in 2000; four other trips have been made since then with the last one in November, 2008.
The group usually takes teaching materials and supplies for the classroom and school, as well as various equipment, Bibles, songbooks, tracts, sermon tapes & CD’s, etc. Our ladies enjoy working with the ladies there helping them to make teaching materials and visual aids for the students. Our men normally teach several classes for the School of Preaching students. Food, clothing, shoes, toys and stuffed animals were given to the Queretaro church and to many adults and children located in very isolated villages along the way there. The Hispanics are always so grateful for any assistance they receive.
Being involved with the Mexico Mission has indirectly helped with the formation of the ESL Program (teaching English to Hispanics), which was very active at Poteau and Heavener for a number of years through the help of members of the Poteau Church of Christ. Through these classes, a need arose for an Hispanic Worship Service. Since that time, Hispanics have been worshipping on Sunday afternoons at the Heavener Church of Christ, where J. J. Espinoza is the Hispanic minister.
